Think of the lifespan of a job. As a teenager, there’s raking lawns or jockeying a cash register. In college, staffing the cafeteria or delivering pizzas. Out of school, maybe an entry-level gig with limited upward mobility. These are impermanent phases, rungs on a ladder. The movie industry is much the same, a series of passing encounters with collaborating strangers who become close for brief periods of time before departing and rarely reuniting.
